Somewhere at a 6-max table, per deal0.412%1 in 2430.41

What we measured

This counts deals where two or more players each hold two unpaired hole cards that both connect with the flop — so each player flops two pair using both cards (for example K-9 and Q-9 on a K-Q-9 flop). It is the classic 'my two pair ran into a bigger two pair' cooler. The per-deal figures assume every such player sees the flop.

How it was calculated

Monte Carlo: deal every player and a flop, then count deals where two or more players each hold two unpaired hole cards that both pair the flop.

Frequently asked questions

How often does two pair run into two pair?+

Two players both flopping two pair with both hole cards shows up about 1 in 102 deals at a 9-handed table (and 1 in 243 at 6-max), assuming everyone sees the flop.

Why is two pair over two pair so costly?+

Because both players love their hand and the lower two pair is drawing to just four outs (a full house). On a two-pair-friendly flop it is very hard to get away from the second-best hand, so stacks tend to go in.
