Preflop Equity Chart: All 169 Hands Ranked

Every Texas Hold'em starting hand, ordered by how often it wins against one random hand. AA tops the chart at 85.1% and 32o sits last at 32.1%. Equities are measured, not estimated (300,000 simulated hands each), and every hand links to its own page with position advice and exact flop odds.

Poker hand tiers

Grouped by equity against one random hand. The boundaries are arbitrary lines on a smooth scale (a hand at the bottom of one tier plays much like the hand at the top of the next), but they are a workable starting point, and the advice assumes a full table of six.

All 169 hands by equity

Equity is the share of the pot a hand wins on average when all cards are dealt out, against that many random hands. Every hand loses equity as opponents are added. The question is how fast. Pairs hold up; hands that need to make a straight or a flush fall away.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best starting hand in poker?›

Pocket aces. They win 85.1% of the time against one random hand, 63.9% against three and 49.3% against five. They are the only hand that is a favourite against every other starting hand heads-up.

What is the worst starting hand in poker?›

3-2 offsuit, at 32.1% against one random hand. It is the hand least able to make a strong five-card hand: no pair, the lowest cards, no shared suit, and a gap that limits straights. 7-2 offsuit is often called the worst, and it is close at 34.6%.

How many starting hands are there in Texas Hold'em?›

1,326 two-card combinations, which reduce to 169 distinct hands once suits are ignored: 13 pocket pairs, 78 suited hands and 78 offsuit hands. That is why every preflop chart is a 13 by 13 grid.

Which hands are premium?›

On this chart, the 12 hands with at least 65% equity against a random hand: AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, 88, AKs, AQs, 77, AKo, AJs. All of them are raises from any position.

Why does my hand's equity drop with more opponents?›

Every extra opponent is another chance that someone makes a better hand. Pocket aces fall from 85.1% heads-up to 49.3% against five opponents, a drop of 35.8 points, while 76s falls from 45.4% to 17.9%, a drop of 27.5 points. Equity is not the whole story though: aces usually win unimproved, whereas 76s needs to make a straight or a flush, and the multiway pot pays far more when it does.

How were these equities calculated?›

By simulation: 300,000 random deals per hand against that many random opponents, using the same evaluator as the odds calculator. Figures are accurate to roughly a tenth of a percentage point.
